Hans Poelzig

(1869–1936)

biography: Expressionist architect, born in Berlin, Germany.
He joined the Prussian ministry of works in 1899, becoming professor of architecture at the Academy of Arts in Breslau in 1900 (subsequently director).
Between 1916 and 1920 he served as city architect of Dresden.
Later works include the fine Expressionistic remodelling of the Grosses Schauspielhaus, Berlin (1919).
