TAMA ART UNIVERSITY is one of the two largest private art- and design- universities in japan. Our campus is located in the TAMA area west of central Tokyo.
The name of our site is derived from the abbreviation of the university's japanese name: <TAMA BIJUTSU DAIGAKU>.
@tamabi should represent our intention of diversifying the activities of TAMA ART UNIVERSITY through a variety of propositions such as experiments@tamabi, media@tamabi, www@tamabi, collaboration@tamabi,
museum@tamabi, and many more.
@tamabi does not stand for a specific physical location, but rather for a concept of presence which could become concrete anywhere at any moment -virtually or physically.
we collect hints on the
ethymology of the <@> mark and pronounciations of this character in as many languages as possible! |
With the launch of its
design department in KAMINOGE in 1989, TAU was the first art university to introduce a curriculum focusing on media education.
Now we are about to extend the scope of media and relational art and design education with the building of new facilities for the
TAU MEDIA CENTER and a new faculty for information technology, art and design.
The concept is to search for the new role of art and design in this age of multi- media and to establish a new environment for creation and expression.
@tamabi aims not only to support joint projects among the courses and joint studies among the faculties within TAU, but also to promote joint study with other universities or institutions as well as to become a hub for communication with institutions and companies off campus. It also will accommodate a virtual design studio which will be directly connected to the relevant workshops of TAU's many facilities.@tamabi will digitally archive the works of faculty members and students and will integrate creative activities of TAU in cooperation with other libraries, research institutes and art museums into the internet.
The working group for the development of the @tamabi site is a loose gathering of TAU's students and staff to discuss, plan and implement TAU's web site and TAU's internal network. |
